The Baked Beans Recipe

You might think baked beans need a long list of ingredients and hours of simmering, but this is a very very simple recipe. There are just three ingredients and minimal effort required, but of course with maximum flavour. All you need is a tin of white beans (such as haricot beans, butter beans, white kidney beans or cannellini beans), some tomato puree, and a pinch of black pepper. That’s it! No need for anything complicated!

  • 1 x 400g tin white beans (cannellini or haricot preferably). standard sized tin.
  • 1-2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • *optional 1/4 teaspoon salt to taste if needed
  1. Grab a medium sized saucepan and empty the whole tin of beans with all the liquid into it. Add a bit of cold water to the tin, swish it about to grab any rogue beans and liquid, then add that to the pan too (about 1/4 of the tin full). Put the heat on medium.

  2. Add the tomato puree to the beans and mix through evenly. Heat until just started to boil, then reduce the heat and add the black pepper.

  3. Allow the liquid to reduce (3-5 minutes) until you have your desired consistency, do a quick taste test and add salt if necessary.

  4. Enjoy!

These are also great cold straight from the fridge and great for adding to a buddha bowl.
