Tired of Starting Over? 5 Reasons Fitness Routines Fail (& how to fix them).

Fitness goals.

Did you make a fitness resolution at the start of the year? How is that going?

If you’ve given up and told yourself it’s impossible to stick to a fitness routine, you are not alone. Fun fact: 95% of New Year’s resolutions are related to fitness, and even at the time people make them, over 4 in 10 already believe they’ll give up within a month.

Whenever you gave up, the truth is, it’s a common issue. We’ve all seen the inspirational social media posts: You just have to stick with it. This could be you in 6 months. Do it sad, do it tired, do it unmotivated, but do it. They all sound good on paper, but they forget one simple fact – we’re people, not robots. We get stressed, tired, sore… and at some point, we realise our fitness resolution might be hurting our mental health more than helping it.

Here’s how to overcome some of the most common challenges:

#1. Not Motivated
You started strong – then suddenly, the motivation vanished. Often, that’s because fitness became a forced task on your never-ending to-do list. When exercise feels more like punishment than something to enjoy and celebrate,  the motivation does fizzle out pretty quickly.
Look for ways to make it fun again – whether that’s treating yourself to some new workout gear, finding a new activity, or creating a playlist that keeps you moving.

#2. No Time for It
Between work, family, and everything else life throws at you, it can feel impossible to make time for fitness. It’s not that you don’t want to – you just can’t physically squeeze it into your day. Here’s the thing: You can! Just think differently about it. Try bite-sized workouts – maybe keep a set of small weights in the kitchen and get a quick set in while your kettle boils (great if you’re working from home). Or swap your commute – cycle instead of drive, or get off the bus a stop earlier and walk.

#3. Too Sore to Work Out
This one can be tricky. Soreness can be a natural part of progress – your muscles are adapting and getting stronger (no pain, no gain)! But when it becomes too much, it can be uncomfortable. If you’re at can’t-walk-up-the-stairs levels for days after working out, take a step back to support your recovery.
Many fitness enthusiasts find that products from CBDistillery support their recovery journey, as CBD can help ease inflammation and general soreness.

#4. Not Seeing Results?
Here’s your reminder to be realistic. We all love a before-and-after transformation, but change doesn’t happen overnight.
Instead of just focusing on physical appearance, look at your progress in other ways: are the weights feeling lighter? Are you less out of breath on that morning run? Do your clothes feel a little bit looser? Just because the change isn’t instantly visible, doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

#5. Not Losing Weight Yet

Why is fitness often only measured by the number on the scales? Yes, regular exercise burns calories and can boost your metabolism, but unless you adjust your diet accordingly, you are unlikely to lose weight. The point is you shouldn’t work out just for weight loss. You should exercise for your overall health, how you feel, move, sleep, and live. Weight loss, if it happens, is part of a wider lifestyle change. So, you need to shift your mind about fitness. Think of fitness as something you do to feel better, stronger, and healthier overall, so it can become a celebration of health, rather than a slimming strategy.

Hopefully, these tips can help you build a better, more positive relationship with fitness – one that you actually enjoy and can continue.
