Put the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and mix together. Add the nutritional yeast if using.
Rub in the butter using your fingertips until you have a breadcrumb consistency. Add the grated cheese.
Add the milk gradually and mix together until you have a smooth dough (it should be smooth not sticky).
Roll out (you can change the thickness to suit your needs) and cut into rounds using a fluted pastry cutter. Place spaced out on a lined or greased baking tray.
Bake at Gas mark 6 (400f / 200c) for 15 minutes. When cooked, the tops should be golden and the scones risen.
Allow to cool slightly before eating! Serve split in half with butter and cheese! Store in an airtight container for 2-3 days or freeze (well wrapped) for up to 3 months.
Change the recipe by adding in a handful of chopped chives or a tablespoon of caramelised onions before adding the milk.
