5 ways to learn to cook tofu everyone will love

Five different ways with tofu

I used to think tofu was something I could live without! When I learnt how to prepare and cook tofu properly, I realised that tofu is tasty, versatile and definitely something I need! Here I am going to share five different ways with tofu which I hope you will love as much as I do.

Yesterday, it was National Tofu Day, and the start of National Tofu Month! So, this month is most definitely the time to try tofu!

If you use the search bar on this website and type tofu (or use the drop down recipe function), you will find over twenty recipes using tofu!

What can I use tofu for?

Tofu has a neutral flavour and can be used for both savoury and sweet dishes. Tofu comes in silken and firm varieties, the former usually being used for sweet dishes due to it’s smooth consistency.

To use firm tofu, firstly it needs pressing to extract as much of the water content as possible. You can buy a tofu press (see below) or wrap in kitchen towel and put a heavy weight on it (a chopping board and several tins works well).

Once the tofu is pressed, you chop it to your desired shape, then add your seasoning or marinade, before baking, frying or roasting.

Hi Laurena, I didn’t know about it being National Tofu Day yesterday ☺️ I usually make stir fries with tofu (even hubby eats it lol). I personally like tofu, I eat it as it is most of the time. I like tofu and mustard sandwiches, yummy.

What! Eva… tofu & mustard sandwiches? Like English mustard? Mixed together or do you spread the mustard and slice the tofu?

Just like when I used to have ham and mustard sandwiches (I wouldn’t eat ham now though) x

Oh! Okay! Not sure I will be trying that though! Stir fry yes, and great that hubby likes it too! What else do (or have you) done with it?

Yes, it has to be English mustard (or a similar strong mustard). I’ve found one very similar to Coleman’s…almost blows my head off but I like it that way😝

I used to scramble tofu but haven’t done that in a while. I’ve made your tofu feta recipe a few times which is lovely (it’s uncannily ‘real’!) Speaking of which, I must admit, I do sometimes buy authentic Mediterranean or Balkan feta. There’s a Turkish one I sometimes buy in a large can☺️

Ooo yes, for some reason I didn’t see the feta in the recipe list today! I bought a jar in M&S the other week (and might have eaten it all in a couple of days)! I think I need to make some again – maybe next week when we have the promised sunshine back (26c predicted)!

You’ve reminded me of the heatwave we had in early October’ 95 (in London, anyway) Can’t remember if there was frost beforehand ☺️

1995 was my travelling year! 😛 It was really hot everywhere… like really hot! Although, I think I might have been back here in October haha, and yes Germany (at Nurburgring actually) was the last place!
