Pumpkins!

Green pumpkins! White pumpkins! Yellow pumpkins! Stripy pumpkins! Okay, and orange pumpkins!

How many pumpkins can you name?

Firstly, if you have a pumpkin field, farm or farm shop near you. Go and have a look! There are so many different varieties of pumpkin, each with their own unique flavour profile. Some pumpkins (aka squash) taste like courgette, some like marrow (there’s other things I would rather eat)!, some like sweet potato, even some tasting like chestnuts!

If you have only ever bought an orange pumpkin to carve faces in, light a candle and then dispose of, then now is the time to change! Find something new and try it – you just might find your new favourite food!

Traditional Halloween Pumpkins (still tasty)!

If the small print is too small… Yes! You can eat ALL the pumpkin! Roast it, bake it, cream it, fry it, grate it. Flesh, seeds, flowers, even the skin!

What do I need?

You need pumpkins! Aside from that, you need an open mind and the willingness to try new things and new varieties! If you are new to cooking or your kitchen needs a refresh, here are a few pumpkin themed ideas. I receive a small commission if you click and purchase through these links (this is at no additional cost to you)!

Serving

You can serve pumpkin as a sweet dish with chocolate, nuts and syrup. You can serve your pumpkin as a savoury dish with other vegetables or with cheese. However you serve it, make it delicious and serve with a smile!

Storage

Pumpkin itself stores really well! Make sure it is dry and store it on paper somewhere cool. If storing more than one, make sure they have space around them in case one starts to go bad. Pumpkins store better if they have their stalks so if picking your own bear this in mind. Check each recipe for specific storage instructions.
