Two wafflelly good recipes for perfect waffles
Waffles are one of those foods which I only ever used to have when out as I thought they were too fiddly to make! What I have learnt though, is you can make them similar to a pancake batter and bake them in a silicon mould in the oven. I do love pancakes and they are often my breakfast of choice but here are two wafflelly good recipes for perfect waffles!
The recipes are pretty similar but one has the addition of a bit more sugar, making it perfect for breakfast or desserts, whilst the other could also be used as savoury if that’s more your style.
Oven baked waffle recipe perfect for sweet or savoury toppings.
- 2 tablespoons flaxseed/linseed ground (alternatively sub 2 eggs)
- 6 tablespoons water (omit if using egg)
- 150 g plain flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 25 g sugar
- pinch of salt
- 40 g butter (melted)
- 240 ml milk
- * few drops vanilla extract (optional)
Mix the flaxseed with the water, mix well and set aside.
Measure all the dry ingredients into a large jug (or bowl) and mix together (a whisk is great for this).
Add the butter to the milk (add the vanilla too if using), mix then add to the dry mix.
Pour the flaxseed mixture into the milk, then mix everything together well (the whisk is great for this too).
Place your silicon mould on a baking tray (to make it sturdy) then pour the mixture into the mould. Tap gently to level, then bake at Gas Mark 7 (425f / 220c) for 10-15 minutes.
Remove from mould (it is hot)! and continue baking on tray until they are baked all the way through (a few more minutes). The length of cooking will depend on the size of your moulds and the depth you fill them to.
Load them up with your toppings!

Crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Waffles for sweet toppings.

- pinch of Salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 40 g 7tsp sugar
- 250 ml milk
- Mix the flaxseed with the water, mix well and set aside.
- Measure all the dry ingredients into a large jug (or bowl) and mix together (a whisk is great for this).
Add the milk and the flaxseed mixture into the dry ingredients, then mix everything together well (the whisk is great for this too).
- Place your silicon mould on a baking tray (to make it sturdy) then pour the mixture into the mould. Tap gently to level, then bake at Gas Mark 5 (375f / 190c) for 15 minutes.
Remove from mould (it is hot)! and continue baking on tray until they are baked all the way through (approx 5 more minutes). The length of cooking will depend on the size of your moulds and the depth you fill them to.
- Load them up with your toppings!
- Enjoy!
What do I need?
If you have a waffle iron then great! If not, you can pick up silicon moulds like these below which will still make you perfect waffles. Of course, if you are going to make a habit of making waffles, you might want a waffle iron or an electric waffle maker! How to Serve your waffles
What a question! I would start with something creamy like yogurt, icecream or cream, then add a load of fresh fruit. Eat like this or double up and add more flvaours and textures. Maybe drizzle with sauce – fruity, chocolatey or even peanut butter, and scatter with a few chopped nuts, coconut flakes or chocolate shavings. Tuck in while they are still hot (leave the photos for another time)!
Can I store the waffles?
These waffles can be stored for a few days without losing their deliciousness. I usually store them in the fridge, then pop them in the toaster to reheat. You can of course, freeze them (label and date) for a couple of months too.

Hi Laurena, I’m slightly embarrassed to say I think I’ve only ever eaten a waffle once, and that was only a few years ago over here in Germany…where they seem to be quite popular🙂I had them once at a small Christmas fayre in our village (made in a waffle iron). It was served plain or with icing sugar or choc syrup- I chose to have it plain😋 I do recall watching those 1980s Birds Eye potato waffles as a kid, I’ve never tried those either lol
