Back to Basics: Buddha Bowl
Buddha Bowl? What’s that!? Well, I just realised that it’s been a long time since I posted anything new in Back to Basics! The weather has suddenly changed and the garden is springing into life! 😀 My spinach and chard are starting to grow and the mixed leaves are poking through the soil. There’s some gooseberries forming and the strawberry patch is adorned with flowers… what an exciting time! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Anyway! Buddha Bowl! Essentially this a bowl of yummy food! Not just any bowl though! A Buddha bowl should be a hand held bowl filled with a delicious complete meal! You might have come across these labelled as ‘protein bowl’ or ‘macro bowl’ but in my opinion, they are basically the same thing?!
So… what do you need?
- leaves
- grain
- protein
- fat (healthy ones)
It really is as simple as that! 😀
Lets look at that in more detail!
Leaves: lettuce, rocket, kale, spinach, chard, or a load of mixed leaves
Grain: Brown rice, quinoa, millet, amaranth, you choose
Protein: Beans, chickpeas, tofu, tempeh, take your pick
Fat: Avocado, houmous, seeds, nuts, olives, what’s your favourite?
You can of course add some extra salad bits in, or drizzle with dressing, the main thing is that your Buddha Bowl is a complete meal… and perfect for lazy summer days!
What’s in my bowl today?
Mixed leaves including chard, rocket, lambs lettuce and spinach, brown rice (with a few wild bits added in), kidney beans in homemade tomato sauce, houmous, beetroot, shepherds salad, beetroot, chargrilled courgette, a sprinkling of mixed seeds, sesame seeds, a dusting of coconut and a chive flower! Delicious!
Let me know in the comments what you’d put in yours! Better still, make it, take a picture and post on instagram with the hashtag or @LifeDietHealth 🙂
Enjoy!!! 🙂 😀 🙂 😀 🙂
