O = Oats & Oranges…!!!

Yum in a bowl!

Oats & Oranges

Now that’s something you don’t see together every day! Oaty oranges! 😛 We were trying to think up something other than oranges which could be for the A-Z Challenge letter

and then I thought OMGosh… I use oats almost every day! Usually I put them in my blender and turn them into flour and make pancakes or bread for breakfast 🙂 Sometimes I bake the oats into these delicious bites or yummy biscuits like these oaty drizzle biscuits 🙂

What made me think of oranges first? Well, we went to a market and bought the biggest juiciest oranges we’ve seen in a long time! They came in 7’s and we bought THREE lots!!! 😛 🙂 It’s juice a go in our house! 🙂

Anyway, I’ve been trying to post another recipe containing rose water (yes Cath, this is for you)! 🙂 and I came up with the idea of making a raw oats dish. I’m sure Milica will let me know if oats are raw enough food to be called raw!? 😛 Basically you soak the oats and then… freeze the mixture! Breakfast, snack or and dessert will do! 😛 🙂

Gather

Prepare

  1. Roll the (unpeeled) orange on a hard surface for 30 seconds (this releases the juice) then cut in half.
  2. Using a manual juicer squeeze as much juice as possible out of the two halves.
  3. Put the oats in a glass and pour the juice (at least 40ml) over the oats. Stir in some of the orange flesh (2 teaspoons is good).
  4. Add the rose water and mix well. Leave to soak (at least one hour is ideal, more if possible).
  5. Scoop the remaining flesh, juice and pith out of one shell.
  6. When the oats have absorbed all the juice, pack into the empty clean shell and level the top.
  7. Press flaked almonds around the top rim of the orange shell, then carefully place in the freezer.
  8. Chill for as long as you can wait! 30 minutes will get your oaty orange firm but not solid. Garnish with extra fruit. Serve.
  9. Enjoy!
