5 delicious recipes you’ll love for Apple Day

Apple Day

Today (Thursday 21 October 2021) is Apple Day in the UK! What is apple day? Founded in 1990, apple day was created to celebrate all things apples and orchards. In the UK, you will find many events celebrating this – often tied in with pumpkin activities too. Our local park has held an apple day for many years and offers a chance to find out about native species, as well as having a traditional apple press to make juice. There is also apple bobbing, a longest peel competition and of course the chance to buy different varieties of apples.

Why Cooked Apples?

There’s just something so delicious about baked apples. Whether it’s the sweet apple smell, reminscent of late summer, or the delicate spices which remind me of the season to come, I just love it! I often cook with apples – more often than not because I buy them to eat, then forget to eat them! Sometimes though, I deliberately buy apples to cook, or collect them from my allotment, or, like last week, I was kindly gifted a bag of Bramley Apples.

If you make a batch of cooked apples, you can then store it in the fridge and use in porridge, overnight oats, yogurt, or even as an egg replacer in cakes and muffins. What’s not to like!

Did you know that Bramleys almost puree themselves when cooked, but eating apples will hold their shape!?

The Apple Day Recipes

Here are five delicious apple recipes which have been made many times in the #LifeDietHealth kitchen!

Apple Crumble Cake: Probably one of my favourite apple recipes. Soft sponge, spiced apple and crunchy crumble.

Apple Dumplings: Something my late Mum used to regularly make when we were growing up. Baked whole apples stuffed with spiced dried fruit, encased in a crisp pastry shell.

Spiced Apple Pots: A quick and easy dessert, snack or even breakfast.

Spiced Pumpkin & Apple Loaf: An alternative to a traditional banana loaf, this includes apple, pumpkin and seasonal spices.

Spiced Gingerbread Muffins: Muffins full of spice and apples, great for breakfast! Yum!

Each recipe requires its own set of utensils, but here are a few items which are perfect for apple themed recipes and celebrating apple day. I receive a small commission (which helps me with website costs) if you click and purchase through these links (this is at no additional cost to you)!

Sharing

I hope this has inspired you to make some apple recipes for Apple Day or to at least go and pick up an apple and eat it! I love seeing your adaptions and interpretations of my recipes and I’d love to see your apple photos! Besides the obvious apple crumble, do you have any other apple recipes you would like to see me make? Please share and tag me @LifeDietHealth or using #LifeDietHealth on InstagramPinterest,  Facebook or Twitter.

Oh and of course – what is your favourite apple? I’m a bit of an apple snob and will only eat very hard and crunchy bright green Granny Smiths… unless there are locally grown crisp apples about! However, anything goes if I’m cooking them – what’s your go to apples?

I hope to speak with you soon
