Saturday Spiralling Adventure!

Usually on a Saturday I post about chocolate or cake, something which takes a bit longer than my usual recipes in the hope that over the weekend you’ll have more time for baking! 🙂 However I was so excited yesterday I just HAD to share this with you! I know it’s not ‘news’ to some of you but to others it will be ‘new(s)!’ Todays intended recipe will have to wait but let me tell you it is dairy free, frozen and doesn’t contain bananas!

I’ve been looking at kitchen gadgetry and yesterday my selected new toy arrived! I’ve spent ages looking for the right one, read loads of reviews, and finally made a decision and what a giant box! I seriously didn’t think it would be that big but it’s SO much fun! Maybe the picture gave it away but it’s a spiraliser! If you’re not aware of this gadget it turns vegetables and fruits into pretty spirals! What’s so great about that? Only that you get to make pretty salads, posh vegetables and fine apple rings, not to mention impressing everyone by creating fancy garnishes! Better still, you can up your vegetable consumption so easily by making vegetable spaghetti! You can also eat delicious raw vegetables or lightly cook the glorious strands!

My spiraliser has three different blades, a spaghetti (or noodle) cutter, a spiral (think tagliatelle) cutter and an ultra thin slicer. I never imagined that one gadget could change so much! 🙂 Have you ever even thought about eating courgette raw? I am convinced it was something I would never have eaten and my intention was to lightly steam it and add a pasta-esque sauce but I couldn’t resist trying one. Then, I was actually eating the delectable strands straight out of the machine (plus we managed to make them about 50cm long!) My recipe changed and I made a salad! I added a beetroot and a carrot and tossed it all together with some added flavours! How appetising is that! The picture below shows my first excited attempt to try out all three blades on the first vegetable I could find – one small golden beetroot!

Gather

Prepare

  1. Using a spiraliser create wonderful vegetable strands with the three vegetables (grating would also work but the taste, texture and effect will be different).
  2. Stir in the mint and paprika and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Add the brown rice vinegar and mix well.
  4. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Enjoy!
